Busy Start to 2026: New Aviary, New Kitchen, 25+ Releases Already

2026 has hit the ground running at Flock Birdcare Wellington. Here is a quick update on what we have been up to.

New Facilities

We have been working hard on improving our facilities. A new prep kitchen is making food preparation faster and more hygienic, and we have expanded our holding capacity for smaller birds. These improvements make a real difference to the quality of care we can provide.

25+ Releases Already

We have already hit over 25 releases for the year and we are not even out of the first quarter. Tui, kotare, silvereyes, fantails and various introduced species have all made it back to the wild. Every single release is a win.

Growing Our Team

We have welcomed several new volunteers to the Flock whanau this year. Training new volunteers takes time but it is essential - our birds deserve consistent, knowledgeable care, and growing our team means we can take in more patients and respond faster to callouts.

What's Coming

Our big focus for 2026 is fundraising for our three infrastructure goals - the kereru aviary, seabird enclosure, and small bird aviary. Watch this space for updates and fundraising events. If you want to help, donations are always welcome at our donate page.
