Bird aviary

Flock Birdcare Wellington has applied for a DOC Wildlife Act Authority to rehabilitate native birds. Our application (Permission No. 120038-FAU) covers tūī, kererū, pīwakawaka, tauhou, and kōtare. DOC has completed our site inspection, and final approval is pending completion of our 4x2m predator-proof flight aviary to meet housing standards for large native birds like kererū.

Once complete, Flock will become the only DOC-permitted bird rehabilitation facility in the Wellington region outside of The Nest at Wellington Zoo. We are WReNNZ members, follow DOC and WReNNZ standards of care, and are supported by Avian Empire vets. The SPCA has also inspected and approved our hospital for bird admissions.

We are not yet a registered charity but are in the process of forming a charitable trust. Donations go into a dedicated account for Flock's operations and aviary costs, with full transparency and oversight.

Right now, native birds like tūī and kererū are falling through the cracks. This aviary will offer a lifeline for Wellington’s native manu.

We’re a small, volunteer-run bird hospital. Every donation helps us provide safe, species-appropriate care.
