Today Was One of Those Days
Today was one of those days that reminds us what Flock is all about. We released 5 juvenile tūī who have been raised and cared for here at Flock. Four came to us orphaned from across Wellington, and one was a tiny cat bite survivor. We also released 3 blackbird fledglings who were more than ready to take on the world.
How We Soft Release Native Birds
As Wellington's only DOC-permitted native bird rescue, our releases are carefully managed. We soft release onto our own property, surrounded by native reserve and flowering nectar trees, giving young birds the space to explore while still having support close by. We also put out tūī-specific food in high, safe places for any juveniles who need a little extra help as they find their confidence.
All of this happens because of our amazing team of volunteers and community support. Thank you to everyone who has donated, volunteered, or simply cheered us on. You are the reason these birds get a second chance.
