A Kererū Who Needed a Little Extra Time

Today we were delighted to help coordinate care for a young, adorable kererū who fledged a little bit too early and needed some extra support. Kererū require plenty of space, time, and proper flight conditioning before they're ready to return to the wild.

The Network Behind Every Native Bird Rescue

As Wellington's only DOC-permitted independent native bird rescue, we play a key role in the Wellington wildlife network — not just receiving birds, but coordinating their care across specialist facilities. We are incredibly grateful to Tony for stepping in and helping ensure this little one was safely transported to The Nest Te Kōhanga at Wellington Zoo, where it can receive the specialised care it needs.

Why We're Fundraising for a Flight Aviary

We are currently fundraising toward building our own flight aviary so we can provide this level of care in-house in the future. Outcomes like this only happen when people work together, and we're so thankful for the community that shows up for our birds. Every donation brings us closer to being able to keep more birds with us through to full release.
